For our centre based walking holidays we have chosen the three most beautiful walking bases in Ireland. Choose from Glendalough, Kenmare or Dingle. Each of the villages are surrounded by terrific hiking and a great choice of services. From the comfort of your guesthouse you can enjoy a selection of classic Irish walks that take in the most striking scenery on the Island. The guesthouses we have chosen are very special and are a great base for your holiday.

Glendalough

Glendalough - Most Beautiful Valley in Ireland

Glendalough is the most beautiful valley in Ireland and it is situated at the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. As a result there are scores of beautiful walks to be enjoyed from the front door of your guesthouse. The surrounding area offers walking at all levels and there is a good level of local services. The valley is enhances by two gorgeous lakes and the upper lake in particular is magical. Your guesthouse is located in the heart of the valley and is within 10 minutes walk of the nearest pub, restaurants and information centre.

 

Dingle

Dingle is a delight. A heaven for artists and scholars, Dingle is staunchly proud of its Irish speaking status and the village could not be more scenically located. Near the most westerly point in Ireland it offers breathtaking coastal walks, awe inspiring ocean views as well as terrific hikes along the Brandon Mountain range. Traditional music and the best pubs in Ireland are the reward for a good day’s hiking. Our guesthouse is based in the village and all the walks can be enjoyed from your front door.

Kenmare

Kenmare is the best place to base yourself when hiking in the Ring of Kerry. The town is very attractive and it is the location for some of the finest food and cosiest pubs in Ireland. Located at the cross of the both the Beara and Iveragh peninsulas our walking program borrows from both regions. Enjoy hikes through the Lakes of Killarney, along the Kerry Way, through Gleninchiquin and the through parts of the Beara Way. A lovely base for terrific week’s hiking.

Of the three bases, Dingle and Kenmare offer the best local services. While much smaller, Glendalough does have 2 local pubs, 3 local restaurants and various cafes and shops. Our guesthouse owners are keen walkers themselves and there is a great choice of restaurants, pubs and local craft shops minutes from your front door. In Dingle and Kenmare you are on the shores of the Atlantic while Glendalough allow you enjoy the spectacular lakeside scenery. All of the walks start from the front door of your guesthouse and we provide return transport when the walks are not circular.

As with all our self guided walking holidays, we provide you with the latest walking notes and maps for your walking routes. We meet you on your arrival in Ireland and bring you to your guesthouse for the holiday. All breakfasts and packed lunches are included in the price. We provide you with a local mobile phone with the best coverage in the mountains and we are ready to provide you with backup and support whenever you need it. At the end of your holiday we collect you and bring you back to the airport (Kenmare, Dingle) or train/coach for Dublin (Wicklow). We take great pride in ensuring that you go home having experienced the best that Ireland has to offer.
