Centre Based Walking Holidays

What Our Visitor Say

Centre based walking holiday allow you to stay in a great location for the duration of your trip and enjoy local hikes before returning back to your guesthouse each day. For our centre based walking holidays we have chosen the four bases walking bases in Ireland. Choose from Kenmare, Dingle or Castletownbere.

Each of the villages are surrounded by terrific hiking and a great choice of services. From the comfort of your guesthouse you can enjoy a selection of classic Irish walks that take in the most striking scenery on the Island. The guesthouses we have chosen are very special and are a great base for your holiday.

Dingle is a delight. A heaven for artists and scholars, Dingle is staunchly proud of its Irish speaking status and the village could not be more scenically located. Near the most westerly point in Ireland it offers breathtaking coastal walks, awe inspiring ocean views as well as terrific hikes along the Brandon Mountain range. Traditional music and the best pubs in Ireland are the reward for a good day’s hiking. Our guesthouse is based in the village and all the walks can be enjoyed from your front door.

Kenmare is the best place to base yourself when hiking in the Ring of Kerry. The town is very attractive and it is the location for some of the finest food and cosiest pubs in Ireland. Located at the cross of the both the Beara and Iveragh peninsulas our walking program borrows from both regions. Enjoy hikes through the Lakes of Killarney, along the Kerry Way, through Gleninchiquin and the through parts of the Beara Way. A lovely base for terrific few day’s hiking.

Castletownbere is beautifully situated overlooking Bantry Bay and Bere Island. A thriving fishing port the town has a more old world feel and is less dependent on tourism than Dingle or Kenmare. The town makes a wonderful base for excursions along the Beara Way and to Dursey Island and Bere Island. There is a good selection of pubs and there are a number of places to eat in the town. The town is surrounded by the mountains and you do not have to walk far to be up in the hills.

Of the three bases, Dingle and Kenmare offer the best local services. The fishing industry is a large part of the Castletownbere economy and tourism is less of share here than in Dingle or Kenmare. In Dingle and Kenmare there is a huge choice of restaurants, pubs and local craft shops minutes from your front door. In all three locations, Dingle, Kenmare and Castletownbere you are on the shores of the Atlantic which allows you enjoy the spectacular ocean scenery. Many of the hikes either start or finish from the front door of your guesthouse and we provide return transport when the walks are not circular.

As with all our self guided walking holidays, we provide you with the latest walking notes and maps for your walking routes. Our driver will meet you on your arrival in Ireland and bring you to your guesthouse for the holiday. All breakfasts and packed lunches are included in the price. We provide you with a local mobile phone with the best coverage in the mountains and we are ready to provide you with backup and support whenever you need it. At the end of your holiday we collect you and bring you back to Kerry or Cork airport or Killarney (for Kenmare and Castletownbere) or Kerry Airport or Killarney (for Dingle). We take great pride in ensuring that you go home having experienced the best that Ireland has to offer.
